Employees from Al Shirawi’s Engineering Services Group joined hands to celebrate and spread awareness on the World Hypertension Day 2014 as part of their commitment to raise awareness on the importance of heart diseases caused by high hypertension and stress related disorders.
The event mainly focused on increasing the awareness around high blood pressure, the leading risk for death and disability globally as highlighted by the World Heath Organization (WHO) in their recent study.
Dr. Unni Rajasekharan from Zulekha Hospital gave a detailed lecture on the importance of understanding heart diseases and how one can take preventive measures in fighting stress related disorders. “The goal of this year’s World Hypertension Day is to encourage people to think about the salt content in their diet and to make them understand the impact it causes on their blood pressure. A small reduction in the salt can reduce blood pressure and its associated cardiovascular risks in a very effective manner. The data from the recent study concludes that about 40.8 per cent of UAE nationals aged between 35 – 70 years suffer from Hypertension”, said Dr.Unni
The Hypertension awareness session was attended by many employees along with members from the senior management who took part in the activities hosted by Doctors and their team from Zulekha Hospital.
