Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), the professional working group devoted to protecting the environment in the UAE, through means of education and voluntary programs recently conducted its cleanup campaign to send the message of environmental protection across the country. The Clean up Campaign UAE 2012 of which Al Shirawi Group was also a voluntary organization, was held at Nad Al Sheeba and was attended by more than 5,000 participants including Al Shirawi employees who participated in great numbers.
“This is an indication of the growing understanding of people about the environmental challenges that the country is facing, like climate change, desertification, massive waste, habitat destruction just to name a few. These challenges bring about many social and economic effects in the short and long run, resulting to food insecurity and to economic decline. We are glad that EEG, through Clean up UAE, provides a common platform for people to meet and express their concern”, said Mrs. Habiba Al Marashi, EEG Chairperson Commenting on the campaign, Mr.Arul Pinto, Corporate HR Manager of Al Shirawi ESG Group said “When it comes to the preservation and conservation of the environment, each individual has a vital part to play and each of their contributions make a huge difference in our everyday lives. This campaign is truly a success and it brings great joy to see communities working together for the better tomorrow.”
Clean Up UAE is a national environmental campaign participated by families, schools, companies and government agencies where the participants are tasked to clean a certain area as a symbolic gesture of concern for the environment. The campaign is a pioneering activity that has successfully rallied thousands of participants each year, since its inception in 2002. The campaign was held in association with leading environmental and governmental bodies namely the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, Environment and Protected Areas Authority of Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah Free Zone Authority, Municipality and Planning Department Ajman, Fujairah Municipality and Umm Al Quwain Municipality.
